- Circa 1870 Col. E.H. Taylor, Jr., known as the father of the modern Bourbon industry, set out to make a special bourbon that runs fine enough to carry his name. His highest priority was a unique water, one with a tantalizing taste as it bubbled up through the limestone ground. He found the perfect spring on Glenn's Creek and built his distillery next door. Built in a castle like design of handcut white limestone, the Old Taylor Distillery is nestled beside a babbling brooking among 83 acres with stately trees in all directions- there is no more enchanting sight! The distillery still sports many original buildings and is located about 10 miles from Frankfort and Versailles and 10 miles from Lexington with easy access to the interstate.
